At KS3, (Years 7, 8 and 9) students follow a curriculum plan that centralises the core subjects of Maths, English and Science, but encourages a breadth of learning from a range of different disciplines. A project work approach in the non-core subjects enables students to develop their ASK (Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge) and enhance transferable skills such as literacy and numeracy. Students also follow a full PSHE programme during Base Group Tutor time and engage in a range of extra-curricular activities.

During Year 9, students will make choices to determine which subjects they will study through to accreditation in Year 11. The KS4 curriculum at EWS is designed to provide choice for students to pursue areas of talent and enjoyment, whilst recognising that students require core qualifications for their next steps. Most students will achieve 9 Level 2 qualifications at the end of Year 11. Students can select to follow an EBACC pathway which allows them to access qualifications in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, a humanity subject and a language.
Alongside their Level 2 qualifications, students will also participate in the PSHE and careers programme, Games and extra-curricular activities.

As student s move into KS5, students can access a wide range of Advanced GCE (A-Level) and BTEC National courses. These are supported by a strong careers guidance programme and internship opportunity in Year 12.

Personal Tutorial time
Students at EWS Academy will meet with their personal tutor once a term for 10 minutes to discuss progress towards personal goals. During the tutorial session, students will evaluate their progress and plan future work with the support of their personal tutor. Any areas of difficulty will be highlighted and strategies agreed to overcome these.

Further detail about the curriculum at each Key Stage can be accessed under the College pages.
